Marks and Spencer Roll Out

Marks & Spencer Roll-out Mobile Cash Counting Platforms from Cash Bases.

Marks & Spencer have rolled out 50 PowerBase mobile workstations to power note & coin counters from De La Rue, making the cashing-up process faster and more efficient. The cash counting trolleys are taken directly to the PoS, where the float and takings can be counted on the spot, helping to reduce shrinkage.

Lee Tavener, Project Manager for Retail Systems Solutions at Marks & Spencer explains “We know that our customers prize a more personal service. One of the ways we can further enhance personal service is to minimise time spent by sales staff and supervisors on administration and back office tasks. The added benefit is that this makes the job more rewarding for our staff as well. The Cash Bases solution enables store colleagues to count tills using the equipment at the PoS. This has greatly improved efficiency surrounding the whole reconciliation process, due to the mobility of the trolley around the sales floor."

The design, created in partnership with Marks & Spencer, evolved from Cash Bases’ Laser model, which was originally developed for stock-picking in warehouses. It has a unique electrical supply which uses an inverter 5 times more powerful than PowerBase units used for checkouts – enough to drive a laser jet printer, PC and monitor all day from a single overnight charge, and, as in this application power-hungry coin and note counting equipment.
