Game On! Somerfield Trial PowerBase for Summer Promotions.

Somerfield, Britain’s biggest high street retailer, are set to trial PowerBase mobile checkouts from Cash Bases. These innovative workstations will be used to reduce queues and serve customers more efficiently. They will be utilised in stores that enjoy extremely busy periods throughout the summer due to seasonal and sporting events – For example, Wimbledon throughout the tennis and the Cowes Week regatta on the Isle of Wight.

Malcolm Milne, Somerfield Store Operations Co-ordinator, said ‘We are very much looking forward to trialling the PowerBase mobile checkouts in selected stores this summer. We often see a massive uplift in sales at particular stores during certain summer events and by utilising these stand-alone workstations we can ensure that our customers are served quickly and efficiently and are free to enjoy their day.’

The concept eliminates the need for data cabling or power points, which allows for total flexibility in store layout. This in turn enables Somerfield to position ‘full service’ mobile pay points in the most effective locations – both inside and out. PowerBase workstations provide an uninterrupted AC power supply from which a range of peripherals can be run all day, integrating with the back office via an RF network.
